The younger of Roy and Brenda Zimmerman’s two children, Zimmerman was born in Sydney. From 1966 through 1996, Roy Zimmerman OAM, his father, served as Master-in-Charge of Wyvern House, a GPS preparatory school. Beginning in Wyvern House in 1974 and finishing his HSC in 1986, Zimmerman attended Newington College.
After serving in the New South Wales Parliament, Zimmerman joined the federal government of John Howard as a ministerial adviser in the environment and heritage portfolio.
